Excel for Business Owner (startup)

This 1-day Instructor Led course shows participants on how to create their own templates in meeting their individual business needs. This course covers basic business order-to-cash processes (i.e. receive inquiry from customer, issue quotation, receive sales order, issue invoice and deliver goods, receive payment), client tracking, and inventory tracking.

Who Must Attend
Business owners or working professionals that want to create template to ease their tasks, tracking and monitoring.


At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Create professional looking document from scratch, such as quotations and invoices
  • Create invoice summary with automatic notification on payment due
  • Create inventory tracking with automatic notification on low quantity
  • Continuously serve your loyal clients by knowing their buying history
  • Create dashboard (i.e.: one page report) to see bestselling products, top clients and monthly invoice amounts


To ensure your success, we recommend the delegates equip with the following or equivalent knowledge:

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Windows
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a plus

Day 1

1. Excel 101

  • Basic Terminology
  • Creating, Saving, Opening, and Closing Workbooks and Worksheets
  • Navigating in Excel – Within a Worksheet and Between Workbooks
  • Selecting Cells, Rows and Columns, Non-adjacent Cells
  • Editing, Updating, and Deleting Data
  • Sheet Background Colour, Name, Hiding, and Unhiding
  • Activating the Menus
  • Accessing the Toolbars with the Keyboard
  • Basic and Common Shortcut Keys

2. Create Inventory List

  • Golden Rules of Good Data Management
  • Entering Data of Number, Text and Date
  • Format Cells of Bold, Colour, Italic, Font, Borders
  • Creating and Using Cell Styles

3. Create and Format Own Invoice/ Quotation

  • Setup Page Size, Header & Footer, Orientation, Margins
  • Use Formulas to Calculate Total Price
  • Use Formulas to Calculate Due Date

4. Create Own Tracking with Conditional Formatting

  • Set Automatic Highlight on Overdue Invoice
  • Set Automatic Highlight on Low Stock
  • Set Automatic Highlight on Customer Birthday

5. Create Own Summary on Quotation, Invoice, Inventory and Client

  • Sort and Filter on Table
  • Remove Duplicate Entries

6. Increase Data Accuracy

  • Maintain Master Data of Inventory and Client
  • Use Dropdown to Select Product and Client
  • Retrieve Additional Details from Master Data via Lookup Function
  • Automatic Generate Running Number for Quotation and Invoice

7. Create Dashboard to View Business Performance

  • Top Clients
  • Bestselling Products
  • Monthly Revenue
Hardware & Software
  • A laptop is required for this course (PCs not provided)
  • Excel 2007 or later is installed
